Disclosure: Abivo is our product. Facts about other tools come from their own websites as of October 2026.

The short answer: If your credit team spends its week chasing past-due invoices across hundreds of trade accounts, Abivo takes the routine follow-up off their plate: its AI agent Kate calls, texts and emails customers about overdue invoices and hands disputes and deductions to your team with the full history. If you want credit applications, risk monitoring and collections in one tool built for distributors, look at Thor. If you want invoicing, a customer payment portal and collections together, compare Billtrust and Versapay. Large distributors that want collections inside a full finance suite should look at HighRadius. Teams that mainly want rule-based reminders and a payer portal can compare Quadient AR, Chaser, Gaviti and Upflow, and Collection.ai offers an AI agent pitched at wholesalers.

Wholesale AR has its own shape. You sell on terms to a long tail of small trade accounts and a few large customers who buy every week, so invoices pile up one per delivery. Payments arrive short over a damaged pallet or a pricing mismatch, sales wants credit holds lifted today, and the customer's AP team wants the PO and delivery details before releasing payment. Once two or three people spend their week on follow-up and the aging report still grows, dedicated collections software earns its keep.

This guide compares ten options. We left out pricing, which changes often.

Abivo: An AI Agent That Does the Follow-Up

Best for: Wholesale distributors whose collectors spend the week on routine follow-up across hundreds of trade accounts, especially AR teams with three or more people in collections.

What it does: Abivo's AI agent, Kate, follows up on overdue invoices by phone, text and email, working from the invoices in your accounting system. Reminders name the details your customer's AP team needs to act, such as the PO number, the billing period and the delivery, and include a payment link. One message can cover every open invoice on an account. When a customer raises a dispute, a deduction or a short payment, or asks for a person, Kate hands the account to your team with the full history of the conversation.

Controls that matter in wholesale: set the follow-up cadence per account or per segment, so small trade accounts and key accounts get different treatment. Pause follow-up on one invoice while a credit memo for a damaged delivery is worked out, without stopping follow-up on the rest of the account. Flag accounts so sensitive replies go to a named owner, such as the sales rep who manages the relationship. Distributors with several companies keep follow-up separated by subsidiary. Kate follows up with customers in over 50 countries and works in any currency.

Proof: OFS Group, a fire safety and appliance repair service company, collected $842,518 in four months, with DSO down by more than 30 days. OFS is not a distributor, but it faced the same backlog of overdue invoices many distributors know. Read the OFS Group case study.

Integration notes: Abivo connects to QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, SAP and Chargebee, plus CSV upload for other systems. See collections software for wholesale distributors for how the follow-up works on trade accounts, or the product page.

Worth knowing: Abivo focuses on the follow-up conversation with your customer. It does not deliver invoices into customer AP portals or handle cash application. When a customer says an invoice is held up in their portal or on their side, Kate hands that to a person on your team with the full history. Distributors whose main problem is invoice delivery or cash application should also look at Billtrust and Versapay.

Thor: Trade Credit and AR for Distributors

Best for: B2B credit teams at wholesale distributors that want credit applications, risk monitoring and collections in one system.

What it does: Thor describes itself as trade credit and AR built for wholesale distributors. It offers digital credit applications with e-sign and automated bank and trade reference checks, ongoing risk monitoring with credit limit recommendations, and collections with escalating email sequences by days delinquent, prioritized worklists, and tracking of promises and disputes. It names integrations with NetSuite, DDI, QuickBooks, Acumatica, Zoho, Odoo and Dynamics 365.

Collection.ai: An AI Agent Pitched at Wholesalers

Best for: Wholesalers and distributors that want an AI agent to send payment reminders and answer customer questions.

What it does: Collection.ai has a page for wholesalers and distributors and describes an AI agent that sends reminders, negotiates payment terms and answers customer questions in real time, using conversational and generative AI. It mentions multi-channel communication and customizable collection rules. The page does not name specific channels or integrations.

Billtrust: Invoicing, Payments and Collections Together

Best for: Distributors, a listed industry with its own page, that want invoicing, payments, credit, collections and cash application on one AR platform.

What it does: Billtrust describes an AR platform with named agentic features, including Agentic Email, Agentic VoIP, Agentic Procedures and Agentic Credit Lines, plus dispute case management. Its distributors page cites more than 260 AP portal integrations for invoice delivery and a customer portal for payments.

Versapay: A Branded Customer Portal for Wholesale

Best for: Wholesale distributors, a listed industry with its own page, that want customers to view balances, pay and raise disputes in a branded portal.

What it does: Versapay describes a unified invoice-to-cash platform covering invoicing, collections, cash application and B2B payments. Its wholesale distribution page highlights parent-child and multi-location account views, a shared portal for disputes with document upload and real-time sync with ERPs such as NetSuite and Epicor. Other ERPs connect by API or flat file.

HighRadius: Collections Inside a Finance Suite

Best for: Large and mid-sized distributors that want collections inside a broader finance platform covering order to cash, payments, close and treasury.

What it does: HighRadius offers collections management with dunning emails, an in-app dialer, in-app payments and worklist prioritization, alongside cash application and deductions management. Distribution is among its listed industries. It describes many AI agents on one platform and pre-built integrations with SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics and NetSuite.

Quadient AR: Rule-Based Reminders With Agentic AI for Email

Best for: Finance teams on NetSuite, Sage, Dynamics, SAP or Acumatica that want rule-based reminders, dispute tracking and payment prediction. Quadient's page does not name wholesale or distribution.

What it does: Quadient AR covers credit management, collections workflows, dispute management, customer payments and cash application. It describes agentic AI that reads incoming AR emails and prepares actions for review.

Upflow: Named AI Agents for Mid-Market Teams

Best for: Mid-market B2B finance teams on NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online or Xero that want named AI agents with autonomy controls. Upflow's homepage does not name wholesale or distribution.

What it does: Upflow lists a Collections Agent, a Cash App Agent, an Insights Agent and an AP Portal Agent for buyer portal submissions, with outreach by email, SMS, calls, letters and tasks, and autonomy settings from suggestion-only to fully autonomous.

Chaser: Multichannel Reminders and Broad Integrations

Best for: SMB and mid-market finance teams that want multichannel reminders and a long list of accounting integrations. Chaser's homepage does not name wholesale or distribution.

What it does: Chaser offers AR automation and cash flow forecasting with reminders by email, SMS, automated phone calls and in-app calling, automated letters, a customer payment portal and late fees. It lists integrations including QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Business Central and SAP.

Gaviti: Dunning Workflows Without Changing ERP

Best for: Finance teams that want automated dunning workflows, a payer portal and cash application without changing their ERP. Gaviti's homepage does not name wholesale or distribution.

What it does: Gaviti describes AI-powered invoice to cash with automated reminders, escalations and follow-ups, a customer self-service payment portal, AI cash application with deduction management and an agentic AR assistant that works as an AI chat for your team. It says it works with any ERP or business system.

What About Epicor Prophet 21, Infor and NetSuite?

Most wholesale distributors run on a distribution ERP. Epicor Prophet 21, Infor CloudSuite Distribution and NetSuite run orders, inventory and invoicing and track what each customer owes. That is the system of record, and none of the tools above replace it. What an ERP does not do is pick up the phone: the calls, texts and emails that get a past-due invoice paid are still done by your team. Abivo works the follow-up once invoices are in the accounting system. It connects directly to NetSuite and the other systems in its integration list, and distributors on other ERPs can start from a CSV upload of open invoices.

How to Choose for a Wholesale Distributor

  • Split the problem. Credit decisions, invoice delivery, cash application and follow-up are different jobs. Decide which one costs you the most today.

  • Handle deductions without stalling the account. Pick a tool that can pause one invoice while a credit memo is worked out and keep following up on the rest. Our guide to customer deductions and short payments covers the process.

  • Make reminders easy to act on. Name the PO and delivery, group every open invoice on the account in one message, and include a payment link.

  • Route key accounts. Large customers should reach the sales rep who owns the relationship.

  • Measure. Track DSO, the share of invoices over 60 days, and the hours collectors spend on routine follow-up before and after.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best collections software for a wholesale distributor? It depends on the bottleneck. For routine follow-up across many accounts by phone, text and email, Abivo. Can AI call wholesale customers about overdue invoices? Yes. Abivo's agent Kate calls, texts and emails customers about overdue invoices and hands disputes and deductions to a person on your team with the full history.

Does Abivo work for distributors with several companies or customers abroad? Yes. Follow-up can be separated by subsidiary, Kate follows up with customers in over 50 countries, and Abivo works in any currency.
